ABSTRACT

1. INTRODUCTION

The applications possibilities for change-transfer conducting polymers can be divided into two broad categories. The first category utilizes conducting polymers and environmental conditions in which the polymer redox state is effectively invariant. Included in this category are important applications in which conducting polymers replace either conventional conductors (metals, metal oxides, and carbons) or conventional insulating plastics - such as for conducting coatings and conducting composites applications. Recent advances in improving the environmental stability, processibility, and properties profiles of conducting polymers has resulted in major opportunities in this category - ranging from electromagnetic shielding to antistat applications.
