Bedales school, and its remarkable founder John Haden Badley, affectionately known to staff and pupils as ‘The Chief’, had a profound influence on the young Rogers, who was educated there from 1916 to 1921. Founded in 1893, Bedales began as, and remained, a revolutionary, progressive, co-educational boarding school set in a beautiful rural area near Petersfield, Hampshire.
