ABSTRACT

We propose to generate quantum dots by a new method based on the formation of misfit dislocation in perfectly periodic arrays during the epitaxial growth of (001)IV-VI compound superlattices. Infrared photoluminescence spectra of non-uniform strained superlattices with misfit dislocations are measured at temperatures T=5K-90K. A large blue shift and temperature independent linewidth were observed in PbSe-PbS/(001)KCl superlattices with a three dimensional periodic array of misfit dislocations. We suppose that these features are due to quantum dot luminescence.
