ABSTRACT

Details of recombining process in lOps KrF laser produced carbon plasmas were experimentally investigated. In tlie experiment with a point focus irradiation, from the population density ratio of n=4 level to n=3 level of H-like carbon ions, it was found that the use of a lOps KrF laser produced plasma was not optimum for achieving amplification of long wavelength X-rays as carbon Hα line. In the experiment with a line focus irradiation, spatially resolved absolute population densities of the ground and n=2 levels of H-like carbon ions were estimated from absorption coefficients of Lyβ and Hα lines.
