ABSTRACT

An overview of soft X-ray laser research at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Meehanics(SIOFM). Academia Sinica in 1988–1996 is reported. The experimental studies on soft X-ray amplification in Li-like Al, Si. K. Ca. and Ti ions, and Na-like Cu ions, the time evolution of nonuniformity in gain media, the diagnosis of line-shaped plasma parameters, the designs of targets with special geometry, the theoretical modelling of recombination X-ray lasers and some alternate routes will be included in the overview. The recent progress in the development of an ultra-short pulse intense laser facility in our institute will also be briefly described.
