ABSTRACT

Simulations are presented for lasing at 14.6 Å from singly ionized neon pumped by inner shell photoionization produced by an intense, incoherent x-ray source. A simple computational model which assumes a time dependent., filtered blackbody source is used to examine the scaling of gain with temperature, density and source rise time. The potential benefits of low Z dopants are also considered. The results suggest that peak gain coefficients at line, centre greater than 10cm-1 can be obtained from mixed targets. However, Obtaining a reasonable gl product will depend on the ability to produce an extremely precise travelling wave pump as the positive gain has a duration of ~ 50/s and is preceded and followed by periods of absorption,
