ABSTRACT

A comparative study pf the energy and temperature dependence of the optical absorption coefficient and photoluminescence is made in single crystals of CuInTe2 It is established that the energy band gap Eg obtained from the analysis of the absorption data using Elliot’s model is relatively more accurate than that from the extrapolation of (αhυ)2 vs. hυ curve to (αhυ)2 = 0 and agrees quite well with that calculated from the energy peak of the free-exciton observed in the PL spectra. The variation with temperature of the band gap EG and the energy Ex at which the free-exciton emission appears are analysed with the model of Manoogian-Woolley and the adjustable parameters compared.
