ABSTRACT

Single crystals of the ternary chalcogenide MnIn2Se4 have been grown by the vapor phase transport technique. The high temperature magnetic susceptibility established an antiferromagnetic interaction between the manganese ions with a Curie paramagnetic temperature of - 97K.

Absorption spectra have been measured at various temperatures between 30–300K The data are interpreted as indicating a direct allowed transition with an energy of 1.55eV at RT. The temperature dependence of the direct optical energy gap is well represented by the Varshni equation
