ABSTRACT

In the system A-In2–2xCr2xS4 (A: Fe,Ni) a series of solid solutions of general formula FeIn2–2xCr2xS4 and NiIn2–2xCr2xS4 were grown from the vapor phase by chemical transport technique.

Spin-glass behaviour has been observed in both FeIn2–2xCr2xS4 and NiIn2–2xCr2xS4 spinel systems for 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5. However no evidence of magnetic order down to 1.8 K was found for NiIn2S4 single crystals. The In substitution leads to more disordered magnetic system, spin-glass and reentrant-like properties.
