Phase formation in the system Pt-Sn-(S,Se)2 and crystal growth by chemical vapor transport

ABSTRACT

Well-formed red plates of (Pt,Sn)S₂ with a Pt:Sn ratio =1:1 were grown by CVT whereas in the system Pt-Sn-Se only slightly Sn-doped PtSe₂ grew. The compounds are stable and crystallize in a berndtite (SnS₂) related structure.
