ABSTRACT
PEELS has been used to characterize boron-carbon-nitrogen alloys, carbon microtubes and interfacial reaction products in a range of C/SiC composites. Particular attention was paid to the compositional homogeneity over nanometre lengthscales and to the extraction of bonding information which are both of prime importance for properties such as strength and oxidation resistance as well as for subsequent materials processing.
