ABSTRACT

The structure of a high angle grain boundary between two Widmanstätten α laths in the same prior β grain in pure titanium was studied using TEM. The Burgers vectors of the dislocations were obtained using Pond’s topological theory of interfacial defects and the dislocation configurations which would be required to accommodate the deviations from various different reference structures were calculated using the O-lattice algorithm. A good match was obtained between the network which would be expected for a two-dimensional reference structure and that observed experimentally.
