ABSTRACT

The quantitative zone-axis CBED pattern matching technique developed by Bird and Saunders for the refinement of low-order structure factors is now applied to the determination of temperature factors in metals. Two alternative strategies are considered. The first involves the optimization of a goodness-of-fit parameter as a function of the fixed temperature factor used for the structure factor refinement. The second compares the variation of the refined structure factors with their neutral atom equivalents as a function of the temperature factor used for the fit.
