A study of electron energy loss spectroscopy with the electron beam parallel to an interface

The model to be used consists of a semi-infinite medium and an electron moving parallel to the surface outside the medium Surface excitations are of special interest. In the present non-local approach a number of surface eigenmodes are excited at the medium surface. In two important limits, the local and electrostatic limits, electron beam excitations of surface modes are briefly discussed.
