ABSTRACT

Experimental and theoretical studies of the quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE) in InGaAs/InP asymmetric coupled double quantum well structures are presented. Photocurrent spectra are used to show the dependence of both intra- and inter-well excitonic transitions on applied bias. It is shown that a suitably designed structure can result in a large Stark shift at low operating voltage, whilst maintaining high oscillator strength.
