ABSTRACT

This paper presents an overview on the physics and technology of nanoscale semiconductor heterostructures in light of their potential utility in telecommunications and information processing technologies. First, it discusses on the importance of optics and photonics in the communication and information technology as a way to overcome the limitations that modern electronics technology faces. Various nanoscale semiconductor heterostructures are then demonstrated paying special attention to the quantum characteristics that are on the horizon for utilization in the current and future telecommunication and information technologies.
