ABSTRACT

The new research area knowledge discovery in databases has been established around these general goals in the last years. Discovery systems support an analyst in performing knowledge discovery processes with the aim to find out new knowledge about an application domain. The degree of autonomy ranges from systems with low autonomy to assistant systems. The main discovery fields are knowledge discovery in databases and automated scientific discovery. Initiated by an MBS-import menu option, the data dictionary knowledge belonging to a simulation model is generated, and microdata are converted into the EXPLORA data structures. Connected to simulation, an EXPLORA application refers to a simulation model and a segment to a variant. To efficiently support an analyst in database discovery, a discovery system must be realized as an assistant system. EXPLORA processes imprecise instructions by transforming qualitative goals specified by the user into numerical parameters of algorithms.
