ABSTRACT

The application of aqueous GPC has been focused upon the system of dextrans in water with silicagel as the column packing. Starting from hetero-disperse standards calibration relationships have been considered, which differ in the choice of the separation parameter. The influence of dispersion on GPC calibration has been estimated. Furthermore, the separation has been studied by measuring the number-average molecular weight of dextrans obtained from a number of eluted fractions. Finally, attention has been paid to the problematic sol ubility of silica, a corollary overlooked somewhat in literature*.
