ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION
The emphasis of scientific study on the recovery of ecosystems from manmade disturbances has focused on the reestablishment of higher plant communities and associated fauna. If one conceives the restoration of soil fertility to be an essential prerequisite for efficient land reclamation, then soil biological studies must be an integral part of any comprehensive, cohesive research effort.
