ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION

A major concern in reclamation is to be able to predict potential effects of waste materials on biological processes upon which plant-soil systems are dependent. In most work carried out to the present time, chemical methods have been used to assess the quality of materials that will be used as a plant growth medium. In the last two decades, however, there has been an increased interest in the use of soil enzymes as a diagnostic and monitoring approach in reclamation.
