ABSTRACT

Corrosion protection by coatings is a growing area of science and technology. This method of protection allows one to design a substrate with the desired physical and mechanical properties and to utilize a coating that is resistant to the environment to which the part is to be exposed. One thus combines the best of two worlds. This chapter will concentrate on protective coatings largely utilized at temperatures res below 200°C. High-temperature protective coatings will not be discussed since this subject will be treated in Chapter 9.
