ABSTRACT

This chapter presents information sources on chemical carcinogenicity data which often provide a great deal of quality information with less effort and time required than the primary scientific literature. The Biennial Report on Carcinogens is prepared by the Department of Health and Human Services of the US government. Integrated Risk Information System contains information on over 500 chemicals for health effects and over 200 chemicals for cancer effects. The Gene-Tox Carcinogen Data Base was published in Mutation Research in 1987. It has been analyzed by chemical class, strain, species, gender, route of administration, tumor site, and tumor type. The Carcinogenicity Potency Database is a widely used resource on the results of chronic, long-term animal cancer tests. The National Cancer Institute has arranged the Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System data by species, strain and sex of animal, route, dose, tumor site and type of lesion, results of the carcinogenicity test, and literature reference.
