ABSTRACT

In the area of perfusion, several topics were covered and I can only touch briefly on a few of them. The area of reperfusion was well covered by Dr. Vatner and Dr. Becker. The information about flow during retroperfusion presented by Dr. Beyar was also very interesting. Retroperfusion is an intervention that I have found difficult to place in proper context. Dr. Beyar’s combination of experimental and modeling data was very helpful. In regard to the Discussion of flow measurements in CPR, I would suggest to Drs. Dinnar and Ben-Haim that they look at the aortic-right atrial pressure gradient as well as the early transient which they discussed. Dr. Spaan’s interest in fluid exchange identifies a topic for continuing investigation. All of us were again impressed with the complexity of myocardial heterogeneity expressed by both Drs. Weiss and Bassingthwaighte. Measurements which we call regional are certainly more limited in their regionality than we often stop to realize.
