ABSTRACT

To assess the fitness of the offshore structures in service, sound technical information is needed for these dented members in terms of both their behavior and ultimate strength. This chapter addresses this need in the analytical study of dented cylindrical members. It presents a computer model for the analysis of dented cylindrical beam-columns subjected to biaxial bending with respect to the dents. The chapter also presents the modeling of moment-thrust-curvature (M-P-Φ) relationships for dented and undented cylindrical sections. It describes the development of an M-P-Φ-based analytical model to simulate the behavior of dented cylindrical beam-columns. The chapter deals with computer implementation and provides the documentation and User’s Manual of computer program BCDENT. Finally, several solutions of undented and dented cylindrical member behavior predicted by program BCDENT are provided.
