ABSTRACT

The interface is the user’s window to any system. Although standard screen structure, the use of icons and color, and sharper screen quality have all contributed to improvements in the way systems are presented to a wide audience of users, an interface encompasses far more than screen format. As a mechanism that lets people customize a user interface to their needs, a flexible user interface relates to the total hardware and software system. Most computer hardware and software, either purchased or developed in-house, provides some degree of flexible user interface that allows users to control their computing system. PC users demand the ability to easily control hardware and software. Even minicomputer and mainframe vendors now offer personal computerlike interfaces. To provide maximum user flexibility, hardware and software could be provided that would allow each staff member on each shift to highlight these states with a choice of 1000 colors.
