ABSTRACT

The growth in the use of local area networks (LANs) resulted in vital corporate information moving onto the LAN. This chapter focuses on practical methods and techniques to consider to integrate the backup of client and server databases onto a minicomputer or mainframe. A mechanism that places backed-up client data in a predefined server directory structure is an important consideration when tailoring the disaster and recovery plan to include client and server data. The additional expense associated with adding LAN data to mainframe or minicomputer data would result in a minimal additional cost, especially when compared with the cost of establishing a separate disaster backup and recovery mechanism solely for LAN data. Integrating client and server information into the corporate disaster recovery plan ensures that client and server data are backed up on a predefined schedule and moved to an off-site location.
