ABSTRACT

The predictive model described focuses on understanding the wide-ranging permeability characteristics in the soil and rock fracture system. The hydrogeologic framework from which radon emanates has been described, providing a basis for the preparation of this predictive model. The predictive model proposed here is intended to fill these requirements, even though it is likely to be modified as additional information is analyzed. It is realized that deductively producing a predictive model at this early stage runs the risk of imperfect reliability. A approximation toward a predictive model is proposed that applies to the crystalline rock terrane of eastern North America. The predictive model described focuses on understanding the wide-ranging permeability characteristics in the soil and rock fracture system. The predictive model is based on estimating valuesof four factors, as follows: Rock type uranium content, Topographic slope and vertical emplacement of building, Hydrogeologic setting and average water-table position, and Water-table behavior and characteristics.
