ABSTRACT

The four Severe Fuel Damage tests in the PBF test reactor have provided the basic integral information base on the early phase of in-vessel core-melt progression. This has been supplemented by results from the ACRR, NRU, and Phebus test reactors and by out-of-pile integral experiment data and fundamental materials interaction data from KfK. Nearly all the available information on the late phase of core-melt progression comes from the TMI-2 core examination. Summaries of the results and phenomenological interpretation of these experiments are provided.
