ABSTRACT

The Source Term Code Package has been in use for close to three years in applications in the US and abroad. However, until the release of MELCOR, there is no readily available means of evaluating the influence of some phenomena, such as natural circulation, heat losses/gains through insulation and fission product behavior after vessel failure, not modeled in the STCP. This paper examines the effects of these phenomena by recalculating the Zion TMLB’ accident sequence as described by the sample problem supplied with the STCP. A modified version of the STCP was used to model the missing phenomenology and the results of these analyses are presented.
