ABSTRACT

Two computer codes have been developed at SRD to model the decontamination of bubbles rising through water. Both BUSCA and BUSGAS are described in the paper, along with the results of the code comparison exercise. The decontamination factor in this case is well-known and given by the exponential form 3 BUSCA (Bubble scrubbing Algorithm) is a mechanistic code which calculates the removal of aerosol from a bubble as it rises through water. Clift et al give correlations for the mass transfer coefficient km for spherical cap bubbles. Theoretical models have been developed for the decontamination of bubbles rising through pools. Theoretical models have been developed for the decontamination of bubbles rising through pools. The equations governing the removal of aerosol particles from spherical cap bubbles have been coupled to the bubble thermal hydraulics in the BUSCA code, which then integrates them numerically.
