ABSTRACT

Most students are advised to discontinue one of the four subjects at this stage so that they can focus on the more rigorous units of A2. All of the medical schools have their own entry requirements and, at the very least, these stipulate that applicants have completed AS levels in biology and/or chemistry. The benefits of maths are probably more abstract than concrete, but the subject does equip with the fundamental skills of logical reasoning that every good scientist needs. Psychology is specifically relevant to neurology and psychiatry, as it provides an understanding of how mental processes develop from both biological and social perspectives. It also provides an introduction to research methods and case studies involving humans. Human geography centres on issues such as food supply, population dynamics and public health, both locally and internationally. The fieldwork might also offer opportunities to carry out investigations on public health.
