ABSTRACT
This paper uses the work of G. Hochschild and T. Levasseur to construct essential extensions of simple highest weight modules for semisimple Lie algebras [Hochschild, 1959, 1960, Levasseur, 1986]. The problem of constructing maximal essential extensions (injective hulls) of simple modules for semisimple Lie algebras is still unresolved.
