ABSTRACT

Agricultural work will change when converting to Precision Agriculture. The interaction between the human and the machine should be evaluated to confirm the suitability of the predicted interactions. This chapter introduces the concept of situation awareness as a possible means of a usability evaluation methodology of agricultural mobile machinery control system on the base of literature and experimental research. Agricultural engineering is a new field in human centred design so there are no established usability techniques and measures. The development process of systems to support situation awareness should according to Ensley begin with situation requirements analysis as it guides the development process. The design concepts should thereafter be evaluated by directly and objectively measuring operator situation awareness while using the product. The experimental research explored the assessment of situation awareness as a means of usability evaluation in the field of agriculture. In focus of the evaluation was the information and control system of the implement, to be exact crop sprayer.
