ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of our experiments on driving posture from which a digital model of driving comfort has been developed. It aims at deciding the key design elements influencing car drive comfort in order to determine which elements have the most important influence on the joints of a human body in the Chinese populations. Based on the data obtained from the experiments, the chapter develops a digital driving posture model with design rules and calculation methods, to be used as the guidance on the design for driving comfort. It identifies the important and independent influence of steering wheel height, wheel position and seat angle on the driving posture through ANOVA analysis. The method of regression analysis was used to evaluate the nonlinear characteristics of the data obtained, and to determine the relations between body measuring variables and posture variables.
