ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a validation study developed in the footwear sector for the practical application of products semantics and kansei engineering at the industry. This work is part of the Kensys Project, which aim is the integration of the user’s preferences in terms of emotional requirements in the process of product development through products semantics and kansei engineering. The study has contributed to the validation of the procedures and tools resultant of the Kensys Project for the development of products fulfilling users’ emotional requirements. The first stage was the application of Product Semantics for obtaining the semantic space of man footwear. A representative sample of products was selected to extract the effects of the design elements on the consumers’ response. The man footwear semantic space constitutes the base to analyze the users’ perception associated to the product.
