ABSTRACT

The UK Government has polices and initiatives on the inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SENs) within mainstream education. The Bulletin is highly structured in accordance with an architectural approach which includes consideration of well defined categories of SEN. This chapter considers the Bulletin and similar documents issued recently by the Ministry of Defence. It discusses some key issues including the need for and character of “Use” studies. The chapter describes Building Bulletin 77 and considers some of the high level systems engineering/ergonomics issues that it highlights. It compares it with the MoD documentation for Human Factors Integration. In May 2005 the Bulletin was reviewed by members of the Special Interest Group and then was discussed in three virtual conferences. Military organisations within the UK have long been interested in the best means of specifying concepts of use along with requirements for purposes of acquisition.
