ABSTRACT
We survey in this paper various a priori gradient and curvature bounds that are imposed on the solutions of certain nonlinear elliptic equations arising in geometry and in mechanics by the particular nonlinearity. These bounds differ in significant ways from the bounds that are characteristic for linear equations.
