ABSTRACT

For the conveyance of sterile liquids during the production process the functions and cleanability with resulting sterility of the pumping lines are of great importance to avoid recontamination of the product. Knowledge of the surface bacterial growth, the cleaning properties of the surface and the type of microorganisms possibly present is necessary to be able to achieve sterile conveyance conditions. In biofouling, the surface growth of the biofilm spreads by extracellular polymeric substances which are secreted by the cells. These adhesives also emerge from the plasma of the cells which have already died. Thermal sterilization of system parts is another approach to achieve sterility in conveyance lines. The parameter for maintaining sterility lie in the construction design whereby a common problem area in pumps is the shaft seal. Looking closely at different sealings and barrier fluid systems is decisive when choosing a suitable conveyance system for liquids.
