ABSTRACT

In 1961, Tetra Pak introduced the first packaging machine for aseptic filling of products with long shelf life in carton packages. The individual processing steps applied in the first machine have been maintained up to the present generation of Tetra Pak aseptic systems. This chapter discusses the sterilization and filling process of Tetra Brik Aseptic machine. Within the international competition of aseptic carton packaging systems there are two well known systems: the roll-fed-system and the so called sleeve-system. Thermoform filling and sealing machines are used for producing shelf stable non refrigerated packs with high and low acid products of homogenous and heterogenous stage. Aseptic packaging began with the sterilization of packaging material webs which were then formed to packages. Aseptic packaging included the sterilization of pre-manufactured beakers. The aseptic bag-in-box packaging system is a cost effective high quality distribution method for food stuffs in bulk containers.
