ABSTRACT

The support of Arab states to international terrorism expresses itself in various ways: First, in the direct support to non-Arab terrorist organizations; second, in their broad-scale unceasing support and continuous manipulation of the Palestinian Arab terrorist organizations which constitute the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO); third, in the links between the Arab states and the Eastern Bloc countries, as well as other Soviet satellites, such as Cuba. The Arab states are well aware of the central role the PLO plays in international terrorism, and they know the PLO would definitely not be able to play such a role without them. Mass media in the Arab states do not fail to contribute their share to the PLO and its terrorist activities by providing publicity, that vital adjunct to political violence. Libya has probably been playing the most important role among Arab states as far as direct support to international terrorism is concerned.
