ABSTRACT
The theme of the author's remarks is the subtle collusion between the media and terrorism which has resulted in the immense success of terrorism in the past few years. Before they touch on this subject, however, it is important that we recognize that terrorism pays. It used to be said that the terrorist tactics of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) were necessary to call the world’s attention to its allegedly ignored grievances. This can no longer be said in justification of the PLO. Now, it seems to the author entirely clear that terrorism has paid off for the PLO, and one could outline a similar course of progress in the case of other terrorist organizations. It is also clear that one of the main reasons, and possibly the most important reason, for the use of these terrorist tactics in advancing the political aims of the organizations involved is treatment by the media.
