ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author believes the two responsible bodies which have to come into the forefront of the fight on terrorism are the political bodies and the media. Political bodies, including parliaments and other organs of government, will have to take legislative action. The author also believes that a politician should have to undergo not only scrutiny of the voter but also of the media. He likes to mention some of the measures that the author believes will have to be taken. Some have already been suggested today on this panel. First, enforce international conventions against terrorism. Starting with the European countries, have the European Convention on Terrorism finally ratified by those countries which have not done so. Second, urge ratification of an agreement in which the democracies of Europe might be joined by the United States and Canada, which would require concerted economic, diplomatic, and political sanctions against governments or states which support terrorists and grant them refuge.
