A signal can be defined as a stimulus or an occurrence that describes some aspect of the work process. The worker should be able to sense the stimulus, interpret the associated message, and respond effectively. Signals are usually auditory or visual in nature. The ability for an individual to sense and perceive a signal may mean the difference between death or survival.
