ABSTRACT

A food delivery company with two satellite depots was the organization of concern in this case study. It had an institutional division which serviced food items to finer restaurants and country clubs, and a home service division which delivered and stocked high quality frozen food items to individuals’ family freezers. This company employed about 450 people. Since it was privately held, exact sales figures were not published. However, the two divisions had a total of approximately $75 million in sales each year. In addition to other functions, the satellite depots received shipments of fresh and frozen food from the processing plant, stored certain frozen foods in its large commercial walk-in freezer, and was a distribution hub of restaurant and home service products. The topic of interest is the loading of frozen food products into a residential freezer by a frozen food delivery company.
