ABSTRACT

The process of implementing health care quality is long and intricate. It involves a large number of areas and activities. The organization as a whole usually becomes involved in this process. Whether it is management, staff, providers or consumers, all will be affected by such a process and all will be part of its successes and its failures. Sustaining health care quality is both an art and a science. It requires leadership skills necessary to keep the momentum of improvements going and the staff morale high, while trying to maximize positive impact and producing actual and measurable improvements in processes and outcomes. Sustaining health care quality is only the process of the system of institutionalizing quality in an organization. Institutionalization of health care quality involves continuous process improvements, continuous structural improvements, and continuous outcome improvements.
