ABSTRACT

The highway bridges, concrete buildings, wharves and other simmiliar infrastructures built pre and post World War II have a life span of approximately fifty years. As this period comes to close there is a dramitic rise in the need for repair and replacement of these structures. Thier sheer number present a crisis of growing propotions, as current materials and methods are not only short lived, but extremely expensive. The existing transportation and marine infrastructures is suffering from severe deterioration, and is need of repair and rehabilitation. It is estimated that in Canada, over $100 billion are required to address the problem of rehabilitating the transportation and marine infrastructures.
