During the past decades, about 75 mostly observational and epidemiological studies have been published in the area of primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease by estrogens. However, most of the studies were conducted in selected groups of the general population. Eighty-eight reviews in this area have also been published, i.e. more reviews than original articles.
