The Perception of the ASR Problem with Particular Reference to Electrochemical Treatments of Reinforced Concrete

The status of our knowledge of the alkali silicate reaction (ASR) phenomena is briefly reviewed and the factors important to its development are discussed. Since electrochemical treatments are being used more and more to solve the problems of corroding rebars in concrete, the likelihood of these methods in provoking ASR is examined, and an attempt is made to put the subject into perspective.
