In its work with electrochemical desalination for the rehabilitation of chloride-contaminated concrete, Norwegian Concrete Technologies (NCT) has experienced conflicting results of chloride analyses used to assess the effect of desalination. This paper summarises the results of two independent Round Robin tests conducted to assess the reliability of chloride analysis techniques using concrete samples with known chloride contents as test material. The deviation in results from nominal (true) values indicates a need for better quality control of equipment and analysis procedures. In the light of these findings, questions regarding the accuracy of sodium analysis have been raised and some initial investigations indicate poorer accuracy than anticipated.
