ABSTRACT

Since 1968 when the last major reform took place in secondary education in Luxembourg, there have been considerable changes in the economic, technical and social sectors as well as in the universities, which make it essential to adapt the school to the requirements of the modern world. Pupils moving into class IV choose their general stream, arts or science, but do not yet have the opportunity to influence considerably their course composition. From this class onwards, however, there will be pre-specialization options: languages, art, music, mathematics, economics and sciences. On entering the specialization section, pupils will choose between seven options with either an arts or a scientific bias which will take more broadly into account each pupil’s particular talents and the requirements of the contemporary world.
